UNIVERSAL TAEKWON-DO (UTKD) MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENT
This Membership Agreement (“Agreement”) is between Universal Taekwon-Do (“UTKD”) and the individual named on the membership application (“Member”), or the parent/guardian of a Member under 18. By enrolling in any UTKD martial arts programme, the Member agrees to the following terms:
1. MEMBERSHIP TERMS
1.1 Membership grants access to UTKD classes, facilities, and training programmes in accordance with the selected plan.
1.2 Memberships are personal and non-transferable unless agreed in writing by UTKD management.
1.3 The Member agrees to comply with UTKD rules, policies, safety procedures, and codes of conduct while participating in UTKD or UTKD-sanctioned activities.
2. TRAINING FREQUENCY & CLASS AVAILABILITY
2.1 UTKD will provide classes in accordance with the published timetable. Timetables may be amended from time to time to meet operational needs. UTKD will provide reasonable notice of any significant or long-term changes.
2.2 Membership fees are based on average annual availability of 48 training weeks per year. Short-term closures for public holidays, grading events, or instructor absence are accounted for in this structure.
3. FEES & PAYMENTS
3.1 The Member agrees to pay membership fees in accordance with the selected plan.
3.2 Tuition fees will be charged via the GoCardless™platform, and are payable on the agreed billing date. Failure to pay may result in suspension or termination of membership.
3.3 Grading fee shall be charged no earlier than one week prior to or one week after the grading test date. This will be done via the GoCardless™platform
3.4 The grading fee is a “pay once” charge per promotion. Should a student not be successful at passing the examination, they are entitled to re-sit the test at a time determined by the UTKD Principal Instructor at no additional charge until they have been promoted.
3.5 Annual Licence and annual ITF Membership fees will be charged on 15th day of each October via the GoCardless™ platform pro-rata based on the number of months the student has been a member of UTKD October to October.
3.6 Failed payments may incur an administration fee reasonably reflecting UTKD’s actual costs (2.5% of the failed amount).
3.7 Membership fees remain payable regardless of irregular attendance. This does not affect the Member’s statutory rights.
3.8 Fees are non-refundable except where required by law or where UTKD is unable to provide services for a prolonged period.
4. CANCELLATION BY THE MEMBER
4.1 The Member may cancel their membership by providing at least 30 days’ written notice.
4.2 Fees remain due for the 30-day notice period.
4.3 If a Member stops paying or leaves without providing the required notice, UTKD may charge fees equivalent to the 30-day notice period. An additional administrative charge of £20 may be made to cover administrative costs. Failure to comply with this may result in further legal action and additional costs.
4.4 The 30-day notice period does not apply if the Member is expelled in accordance with clause 5.
4.5 If UTKD makes a material change to membership terms (e.g significant timetable reduction, price increase), Members will be notified in advance and may cancel without penalty if they do not accept the changes.
5. SUSPENSION OR TERMINATION BY UTKD
5.1 UTKD may suspend or terminate membership for serious breaches of conduct, safety violations, or behaviour deemed harmful to Members, staff, or the club environment.
5.2 In cases of expulsion, fees already paid for the current period are non-refundable unless otherwise required by law.
6. LIABILITY NOTICE
6.1 The Member acknowledges that martial arts training involves physical exertion and inherent risks of injury.
6.2 UTKD will take reasonable care to ensure participants’ safety during training.
6.3 Nothing in this Agreement excludes or limits UTKD’s liability for death or personal injury caused by UTKD’s negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or any other liability that cannot be legally excluded under UK law.
6.4 Subject to clause 6.3, UTKD is not liable for loss or damage to personal property or for injuries arising from activities undertaken contrary to instructor guidance or club rules.
7. GENERAL TERMS
7.1 UTKD may update this Agreement from time to time. Members will be given reasonable notice of any changes. If a Member does not accept the changes, they may cancel without penalty.
7.2 This Agreement is governed by the laws of England and Wales.
7.3 If any part of this Agreement is held unenforceable, the remainder shall continue in force.
7.4 By enrolling in UTKD, the Member confirms that they have read, understood, and agreed to this Agreement.
